Ongoing 48/48 odetodramas0 people found this review helpful Story Acting/Cast Music Rewatch Value I recommend Legend of Yun Xi wholeheartedly for one major reason - I loved the main character, Yun Xi. Yun Xi is smart, brave, kind, and skilled with poisons. The strong female lead character that I've been waiting for! I thought the actress who played her, Ju Jing Yi, did a great job. However, I have what seems to be an unpopular opinion regarding the male lead actor. I thought Zhang Zhe Han's portrayal of Long Fei Ye was boring and wooden. For the most part, he might as well have been a cardboard cutout, and when he began to show some emotion it seemed inauthentic. I understand that his character is supposed to be cold and emotionless, but Zhang Zhe Yan's eyes looked lifeless! I was still rooting for the leads' romance, but solely because I loved Yun plot was fine until the last ~10 episodes where things became convoluted. I also admittedly skimmed through a lot of the emperor and harem parts, and some of the various princes' scenes, because clearly I was here for the romance. Aside from the lead couple, I enjoyed Ning Jing and Tang Li's storyline - maybe she was a little over-the-top at times but they were a funny and cute pair. I loved Xi Feng, because I can never resist a loyal right-hand man. I didn't care for Qi Shao either way, but I disliked him in the end when he tried to make Yun Xi's choice for of the ending, I have to say that I prefer the epilogue episode 50 version of the ending. I find the actual ending too contrived. Still, overall I loved this drama and I couldn't stop watching it! Read More Was this review helpful to you?

Legend Of Yun Xi 芸汐传 is a Chinese costume drama that was released quite some time back in 2018. I would have missed it if not for the news about The Blooms At Ruyi Pavilion which will star the same male and female leads. I know many fans are excitedly looking forward to their new drama and this got me interested to see what the hype is all about. Whether the interest has been worthwhile is reflected in my Legend of Yun Xi review below. To cut a long story short, I would say that I wouldn’t mind watching them being cast together again. What is his personal agenda?Legend Of Yun Xi Ending Spoilers Alert! After sitting through 48 episodes of Legend Of Yun Xi, you will come to an ending that is open to your own interpretation. I see it as neither particularly happy or sad because some things are left unexplained. The storyline is clear that Yun Xi has to sacrifice herself to cure Fei Ye’s Gu Poison. What is needed is the blood from her heart. So, she begged Qi Shao to help her with the cure before she killed herself. The viewers are led to believe that she died despite her magical bangle glowing when she took her last breath. There is also a scene that shows Qi Shao trying to call out to her in his semi-conscious state when a woman appears to take away the magical bangle in his possession after Yun Xi’s the same time, viewers are shown how Fei Ye and Qi Shao miss and mourn Yun Xi. In the last scene, the timeline should be more than a year after Yun Xi’s death. Fei Ye is recollecting his time with Yun Xi. Suddenly, he sees her in the garden and goes over to hug her… and the drama ends! If Yun Xi is supposed to live, we are not told exactly how she stayed alive and where she had been. Since Fei Ye is also shown thinking about Yun Xi in the last scene, it could also be interpreted as him dreaming or hallucinating since his feelings for her is so strong. Hence, the ending is open-ended in that way. You can check out my Legend Of Yun Xi episode summary for more Fei Ye Is After The Poison MasterFei Ye is actually a prince of the fallen state of Qin Xi. Qi Shao hates his father for the poor treatment accorded to him and his mother who was a palace Of Yun Xi Review – Kind Of PredictableThe way the story is told in Legend Of Yun Xi is that the characters’ background is revealed bit by bit. In the early parts of the drama, we see Fei Ye as a prince of Tian Ning before his back story is peeled off layer by layer as the drama progresses. So, as you watch episode after episode, you can kind of guess what is going to happen next. It is not hard to figure out who Fei Ye is or who is Yun Xi’s real father. It is not the type of drama that is suspenseful in that Romance Is LackingI know many people look forward to watch Legend Of Yun Xi for the romance. But this is not a drama that is particularly heavy on the romance side of things either. Yes, the 2 main characters fall in love but for the most part of the drama, they are either cold towards each other or apart. Of course, there is a good reason for it but if you are hoping for a lot of lovey-dovey scenes like those in The Love By Hypnotic, you will be in for a disappointment. I think Yun Xi spends just as much time, if not more, with Qi Shao as with Fei Ye. Personally, I feel they should have done more to develop the relationship between Yun Xi and Fei Ye so that viewers will be more emotionally invested in their love chemistry between Zhang Zhe Han and Ju Jing Yi is palpable which is partly why I suppose viewers are giving Legend Of Yun Xi fairly positive reviews. I have no complaints there but Zhang Zhe Han’s acting could have been better. I know it is not easy to act as a stern and distant royalty and military commander but I think Allen Ren did it quite well in Under The Power. Fei Ye’s character lacks depth in Zhang Zhe Han’s portrayal that it looks a little too superficial. I think I like him better in the modern drama, Everyone Wants To Meet You. At least, he shows more emotions there with better It For Yalkun Merxat And The PlotIf there is one good reason to watch Legend Of Yun Xi, it would be Qi Shao’s character. He can appear cold and evil with his foes but he can also be warm and endearing with Yun Xi. He speaks with his eyes and smiles. In fact, I like his character and Yalkun Merxat’s portrayal better than Fei Ye and Zhang Zhe Han’s other reason that got me to continue watching is how Fei Ye will defeat Tian Ning’s Emperor and whether he will be cured. Although most aspects of the drama are predictable, the storyline is still pretty interesting with the poison zombie angle being an important element that glues everything together. You can guess that there will be a battle between Fei Ye and Emperor Tian Hui Di in the end. You can also predict that Yun Xi would want to save Fei Ye. But as the story builds up, the motivation is there to plough on to see how the ending will be presented to the VerdictI’m not particularly fond of open endings. That is why for this Legend Of Yun Xi review, I have only given it a 7/10 rating. I don’t mind a sad ending if it fits the story because a forced happy ending would just make it unsatisfying as the drama closes. It also doesn’t have a compelling a story as Love And Destiny or The Untamed but it is still a watchable production given its interesting you like palace political machinations and power struggles, then Legend Of Yun Xi is for you. The poison zombie story also makes it a little different from the standard fare. The romance is there and is an important component to the whole plot but it is not the most attractive part of the drama for me. As I have mentioned, if the screenwriters had invested more effort into the romance, Legend Of Yun Xi could have turned out better. Viewers would then feel moved with Yun Xi’s sacrifice which is the climax of the story. But as it is, it is still worthwhile to give this drama a go. Just don’t put too high hopes on the romance part and a highly satisfactory ending if that is what you are looking for. I ended up hating this drama. Overall I think this story was extremely boring besides the beginning. The ending is abit unpredictable but I salute to you if you even make it to the end. ACTING/ CASTING Most of the actresses are from the girl groups snh48, gnz48, star48 ect so you cannot expect much. But the acting is alright and the chemistry between couples are decent. MUSIC The songs are ok, the main lead actress Ju JingYi sang the opening song. I don't see myself listening to it after the drama. I did like the instrumental music. REWATCH VALUE I would never rewatch this because there are better dramas out there. Esta resenha foi útil para você? Iwas in awe when I watched the first episode and I was completely hooked by the second. Legend of Yun Xi was really enjoyable and the amazing cast was a cherry on top. The main leads were adorable together and the story was quite interesting as well; the sad part was the ending which I guess was inevitable and you should prepare yourself for it. Completed Sophia Lyn1 people found this review helpful Story Acting/Cast Music Rewatch Value To make it clear, the story line is nothing new and quite predictable. In this drama, it was really the characters that added spice and their unique traits which added flavour to the PLOTIt is quite a typical plot if you have watched a lot of historical dramas and in particular, fantasy ones involving different dimensions. So if you are just venturing into this genre of dramas, I do believe it will mostly be interesting and likeable for you guys. However, if you are not new to the scene, this drama might bore you as you would be able to generally gauge how the whole series will play out. Personally, I watched the first few episodes and it started to get bland for me because all the scheming, trickery and relationships could be guessed easily. For some reason, I just gritted my teeth and continued. Eventually, with the support of the wonderful OSTs, I managed to weather through the next few episodes. It got better mainly because of the characters and I encourage you to continue watching if you can tolerate repetition because it does get interesting. Furthermore, the world building is quite unique with the Gu-abetted men and that was a plus point for me to keep watching because it was a different angle to take in these CHARACTERSIt was the characters which made the story interesting. Each and every one of them all became so loveable to me. With Long Feiye, I adore how he is so stoic for the first half or so but I could see the progress of his relationship with Han Yunxi evident in him becoming more open with is display of outward affection. I like how he is so steady and sharp with every calculation. He really cares for his friends and family, going out of his way to help them. Yunxi is so persistent, resolute in her decisions, honest and also unknowingly cruel. I respect how she makes clear her affections for Feiye especially towards Gu Qishao but also the part in the end where she forced Qishao's hand. Overall, I believe the characters made the drama so lively and eventually lead me to feel so attached to this EMOTIONSSince I grew attached to the characters, undoubtedly the emotions would be overwhelming for me. The one that struck me the most was how painful Gu Qishao's journey through this story was. H efaced so many adversities and nothing was easy for him. The part where Yunxi forced Qishao's hand n a certain matter was acutely painful No one was there to support him and he was the lone wolf to contend with the whole process, the event prior to, the aftermath and the visuals. I realised what a cruel hand the story dealt him and I felt deep sympathy for him. The relationship between Consort Dowager Yi and Yunxi was a deeply satisfying one for me. I truly enjoyed their relationship progress and that was a true enemies to lovers trope right there. Their progress invoked so many emotions because you can see every single stepping stone they took was a wonderful one which makes me miss the drama so much more as I am writing this review a few days later. Of course, we cannot miss out the main leads of the story. Unlike the rest, Theirs was a love that is normal and beautiful in its own way but it did not make me yearn for the story not to end. In fact, it was their chemistry that made it memorable for me. They were so good working together, one person healing with poison, the other toiling tirelessly for his people. i loved that ultimately they supported each other out in the open and behind the scenes, they did even more to hold each other up, be it consciously or unconsciously. There were no jarring plot holes and their acting was also good but not memorable. I did find the first few episodes confusing as well with how it was structured to go from the present then to the past to a flashback and then replay that present scene all over the characters and their resulting relationships made the drama impactful for me and I urge you to endure the first quarter at least in order to enjoy the drama.
